Trekking - Visit the Home of Pony Trekking - Newtonmore
It all started here in Newtonmore, where centuries ago the strong
and sure footed Highland ponies were ridden for pleasure outside
the shooting and stalking seasons.
In keeping with tradition ponies from Newtonmore were used in
the making of the classic movies Rob Roy and Highlander.
Whilst Highland ponies are still used on the hills they now enjoy
a varied lifestyle, especially where visitors to the area are
concerned, providing hours of pleasure for those who wish to have an interaction with horses.
Our location on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park offers a fantastic opportunity for novice riders to enjoy the stunning landscape from the saddle where you witness the rugged and beautiful Scottish landscape on horseback.
Our leisurely treks are taken away from the roads and traffic and into the hills where you will not only witness the glorious landscape but also the amazing wildlife that habit the local terrain. Your ride will take you into the forests, out onto the hills and conclude at the edge of the cascading river Calder.
Treks are generally at walk, all riders under 12 years old will be lead.
Our treks last one hour, the horses and ponies we use are all sure footed and of a quiet nature, thus enhancing the enjoyment for the complete novice. For our smaller visitors we offer pony rides down by the riverside.
If your ability is more of an intermediate why not consider a trail ride, these can last up to six hours.
Before you commit to a trekking session please consider the “do’s” and “don’ts”, these are essential in order for an uncomplicated ride.
